Older Adult Committee

Connecting generations to build a better future.

Support, fellowship, and shared knowledge for our seniors — and a place for the whole community to learn from them. Start with what you need.

Our Mission

Our mission is to encourage older adults to share their knowledge, skills, and talents with youth and adults, helping to build a more resilient and spiritually connected ummah. We promote intergenerational collaboration inspired by the Islamic value of mutual cooperation in goodness. By creating opportunities to learn, serve, worship, and grow together, we seek to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood across ages.

Our Mission

To encourage older adults to share their knowledge, skills, and talents with youth and adults, helping to build a more resilient and spiritually connected ummah — promoting intergenerational collaboration inspired by the Islamic value of mutual cooperation in goodness.

Why It Matters

By creating opportunities to learn, serve, worship, and grow together, we strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood across ages — with reminders on gratitude (shukr) and patience (ṣabr) alongside practical, everyday support.

Ideas - Support - Volunteer

Two quick ways to reach the committee: request support for yourself or someone you know, or send a general idea, suggestion, or request to volunteer.

The Older Adult Committee extends to seniors who may need assistance in any aspect of life—emotionally, spiritually, socially, or physically. If you or someone you know is facing challenges, please know that seeking help is both welcomed and dignified in Islam. Our goal is to support you with warmth, mercy, and confidentiality.

A word on our elders

Your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him, and that you be good to your parents. Should one or both of them reach old age with you, do not say to them a word of disrespect, nor repel them, but speak to them a noble word. Lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, “My Lord, have mercy upon them as they raised me when I was small.”

The Holy Qur’an · 17:23–24

Get involved

This work runs on volunteers.

Every Coffee Chat, resource meeting, and Ramadan iftar is made possible by community members who give their time. Companionship visitors are especially needed — but so are hosts, greeters, and drivers.

A word on our elders

“Those who do not show mercy to our young ones and do not realise the right of our elders are not from us.”

Sunan Abi Dawud · 4943

A word on giving

Those who spend their wealth in charity day and night, secretly and openly—their reward is with their Lord, and there will be no fear for them, nor will they grieve.

The Holy Qur’an · 2:274
